Tire Tips & Maintenance -Your Tires Are Important!

Ensuring your tires are in good condition will not only ensure your safety, but it will also save you money!

Keeping your tires in good condition is essential for good vehicle handling, driving comfort, and fuel efficiency. Follow these simple maintenance tips to get top performance out of your tires.

Inflation Pressure
It is important to check tire pressures regularly. Tire pressure that is too low will force the treads together, reducing the
tire's ability to channel away the water and slush, increasing the possibility of a skid. Over inflating reduces the tire contact with the road, which causes a risk of skidding. Safety is our main concern at Excel Tire. If you have any traction questions or concerns, visit a location near you.

Tread Wear
When you least expect it, sunshine can turn to rain, hail, snow or slush, causing reduced visibility and slippery driving conditions. To ensure traction, your tires need to be in good condition. Treads need to be thicker than 1/8 of an inch or 3mm, so water and slush can

disperse along the tire grooves and away from the tire and on to the road. Most tires have a built in tread wear indicator that will show when there is 2/32" remaining on the tread. When you have reached this safety indicator, it's time to replace your tires.
Wheel Alignment
Wheel alignment should be checked regularly to prevent uneven wear patterns on your new tires, improve mileage, ensure your vehicle steers better and improve cornering and braking - and ultimately prolong the life of your tires. When purchasing new tires it's a good idea to have a wheel alignment done on your vehicle.
Balancing
Your tires must be properly balanced to ensure that the weight of the tire and rim is distributed equally as it spins. Unbalanced tires can result in shimmying.
Tire Rotation
Have your tires rotated every 10,000 kilometers. The purpose of tire rotation is to achieve a more uniform wear for all tires on the vehicle. If your tires show uneven or irregular wear, ask an Excel Tire service specialist to check for and correct any misalignment, imbalance, or other mechanical problems.
